The Lower Mainland driver of a car died from her injuries resulting from an early Sunday morning crash in the northbound lane of Highway 99, between Steveston Highway and Blundell Road.
Now investigators are looking for witnesses to the single vehicle accident, which according to police occurred during heavy rains about 1 a.m.
Deas Island Traffic Services was called to the scene to find the vehicle had landed upside down and partially submerged in a water-filled ditch adjacent to the highway.
The vehicle left the roadway, collided with a highway sign and then flipped into the ditch.
There is no indication another vehicle was involved in the crash.
“It was raining heavily at the time of the crash and road/weather conditions as well as driver experience are being considered as possible contributing factors to this crash,” Deas Island Traffic Services said in a press release.
BC Coroners’ Service is investigating, along with the RCMP.
Witnesses to the crash, or anyone who has information about what happened, are asked to call Deas Island Traffic Services at 778-290-2400.
